E-con. = Ecological-CONstruction E-con.'s background is primarily in architectural and interior design and visualisation. Before becoming established in January 2005 we had spent, and are continuing to spend much time researching the technologies that are necessary for developing sustainable, energy efficient properties. We are ongoing in the search for new ways to improve, enhance and group together the smaller, lesser known products such as Structural Insulated Panels (SIP's), photovoltaics (PV's), solar-thermal water heaters, geo-thermal heating and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR), rather than just exploit the larger, already well established ones - brick-block or timber-frame construction, double glazing and cavity-wall insulation. Our decision to build as well as design was made because of the ever-increasing demand for energy efficient developments, not only in the United Kingdom, but also throughout the rest of the world. But unfortunately, many developers only input enough to meet the building standards of today, rather than try to exceed them and ensure a more energy efficient, sustainable development for the future - and this is where we differ.
The PRIMARY OBJECTIVE. It would be almost impossible to ask everyone to change the wasteful lifestyle that they have all become so accustomed to, and although this would be an answer to reducing the pollution, it is not necessarily the most realistic. So rather than trying to convince everyone to change how they live, we set out to design an ecological solution to the pollution generated from our homes - a property that boasts zero-emissions, costs less to run and is far better for the environment. Our primary objective is to design and build homes that require very little or no change of lifestyle to sustain a totally ecological way of living; homes that enhance the wealth of solar energy to heat water and generate electricity for heating and light; homes that can actually improve the health of the occupants by filtering the incoming air and water, use rainwater for all non-potable applications and boast zero emissions; and homes that will transform the occupants into an environmentally-aware culture that truly understand the reasons for their home being constructed in such a unique way; "to illustrate that 'ecological', 'environmentally friendly', 'sustainable', or 'green' buildings can exist in today's marketplace, and far exceed the standards that so many people have come to expect from a new home, whilst eliminating all misconceptions of eco-construction and the eco-lifestyle."
